Apple targeted in Fox News ad boycott

Source: Apple Inc.

Source: Apple Inc.

Apple (AAPL), a company that counts Al Gore among its board members and whose CEO once dated Joan Baez, found itself the unlikely target of an advertising boycott campaign this week.

The issue is an iPhone ad that appeared on the Aug. 7 broadcast of the Glenn Beck show on the Fox News Channel (NWS).

Under pressure from advocacy groups, more than a dozen companies, including ConAgra (CAG), Geico, Procter & Gamble (PG) and Progressive (PRG), have pulled their commercials from the conservative commentators' show. (See here.)

The boycott was launched last month by ColorofChange.org after Beck made remarks on Fox and Friends that labeled President Obama a "racist" with a “deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

The campaign was picked up by democrats.com, which provided its members with a list of advertisers and an e-mail form letter that threatens to stop buying the sponsors' products as long as they advertise on Fox News. The organization set a goal of 100,000 letters; as of Saturday morning 46,575 had been sent.

It's not clear how the iPhone ad ended up on the Glenn Beck show. The political blog Daily Kos, which has been monitoring the effects of the boycott, points out that many of the sponsors sticking with the show are "no name companies" like Avodart and Metastock that buy up cheap spots on late night rebroadcasts. Apple is one of the exceptions.

"Apple never used to have any ads on the Glenn Beck show," writes Daily Kos' wikoogle. "Their ads mostly showed up mid afternoon or very latenight on Fox News, and sometimes on the O'Reilly Factor, but never during either Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity. In all likelihood, Apple's ads purchased for very late night airings were moved free of charge to more lucrative spots, without Apple's knowledge." (link)

Although the boycott began after Beck's July 7 remarks about Obama's alleged racism, it was broadened by democrats.com into an attack on Fox News and what it calls the cable network's campaign of "outright hate-mongering and incitement of violence" following Obama's election.

As part of its petition drive, it lists these examples:

  • 6/30/09 Glenn Beck agreed with guest who urged bin Laden to attack U.S. with nuclear weapons: "The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it’s going to take a grassroots, bottom-up pressure, because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. Only — it’s an absurd situation. Again, only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary."
  • 7/25/09 Neil Cavuto and guest said health care reform will impose universal euthanasia like "Soylent Green."
  • 7/28/09 Glenn Beck called President Obama a racist: "The President has exposed himself as a guy … over and over and over again … who has a deep-seated hatred for white people … or the white culture… This man is a racist."
  • 8/6/09 Glenn Beck "joked" about giving Speaker Pelosi a glass of wine with poison.

Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Fox is smart and corrupt. They fund radical conservatism with liberal shows like Simpsons, Famihy Guy, Wanda, Glee, etc… They are lying to the american voters. Did they scream about deficits when the proceeds went to 250k+ fat cats? NO. Only when it benefits middle class do they say it is "unamerican". Don't be fooled!!! They are rich liers.

Beck is crazy. That's why your TV comes with a remote. If no
one watches, then no one will buy air time on his show.

To Dave Crafton:

That is true. Except Glenn Beck was not on his show when he called Obama a racist, he was on Fox and Friends.

Posted By John Richards, Dallas, TX: August 18, 2009 3:09 PM

Beck has the right to say what he wants on his show. To label Fox "News" is a bit of a stretch, but whatever.

And companies have a right to advertise where and when they wish. Free market and all.

So what's the big deal?

George, NYC, you should read up on Stokholm Syndrome. You said it is when a SLAVE looks up to the abductor. That isn't true.

It is when an ABDUCTEE looks up to the abductor. Using the word "Slave" was quite a racist term there. See, it's called Stockholm Syndrome because, you know, it originated in Stockholm.

2 minutes on Wikipedia would tell you that.

Apple should be prepared for such backlash when choosing to air an ad on such a show. I'm all for free speech, but when speech is used to incite wackos who might do violence to others it has gone too far. Try yelling "fire" in a crowded auditorium and see how far the "free speech" goes for you. Freedom is not unlimited, nor is the misuse of freedom without consequences.

OK, Since PG (Oral-B, Braun, Gillette, Duracell …) decided to play politics, let's the games begin. I'm selling their stock, stop buying their products, start my own "targeted" campaign. Will see how long they will last in their resolve to support leftist loons. Let's go generic for a while, and see what the board of directors do about this managment decission.

Apple does NOT lose my support or business. democrats.com is succeeding in convincing me that they are NOT for democracy or democratic freedom. They are engaged in blackmail here. Apple is a company that tends to land on the liberal side of things, such as supporting gay rights. ColorOfChange.com and democrats.com see fit to boycott Apple for Glen Beck's comments? That is not boycotting. That is blackmail. Don't be surprised if Apple says it does not support Glen Beck's statements, but it will stand up to ColorOfChange and democrats.com because their actions are un-democratic and are attempts to stifle freedom. They are going after a liberal company. That is stupid. They've also given Beck and Oreilly much ammo against liberals, as these two groups are showing themselves to be extremists against freedom of speech.

Posted By Dave, boulder, colorado: August 17, 2009 11:36 AM

People (both sides) need to understand that all "Free Speech" means is that you won't be thrown in jail for what you say. There are no criminal consequences (barring libel or slander), but that does NOT mean that there are no consequences of any kind. Boycotts have been used effectively by BOTH SIDES over the years to express disapproval.

Obama, by his words, manner and actions has proven himself to be a racist ex-crackhead Marxist. Glenn Beck simply stated the obvious.

ex ped: Crack? Marx? Pretty wild charges from a man who won't give his last name.

Posted By Jerry L, Detroit MI: August 17, 2009 10:53 AM

Why do libs constantly take everything said by conservative commentators, or any conservative for that matter, out of context for the sake of making wild claims that conservatives are insensitive, ignorant, or want bad things to happen to America? Beck was simply pointing out that it would take something LIKE an attack on America from Osama before the short term memory Americans would remember what it was like on Sept 12. Its called an analogy to express his point. No person in their right mind would want something like that to happen..duh. Conservatives want liberal ways to fail because they will ultimately cause the country to fail as a free republic. If the slightest liberal policy somehow happens to help out enough voters in the right places, then God help us because the flood of socialist policies will come because people will vote themselves money. Once people find that they can vote themselves money from then this great experiment is over. Are you going to vote someone out of office that takes other people's money and gives it to you? I wouldn't, BUT its not the idea this country was founded on. If you want socialism, go somewhere with socialist policies already, don't push them here.

Posted By Ryan, Indianapolis, IN: August 17, 2009 10:33 AM

I have to agree. Obama "targets" his ideas and programs at specific groups. These programs are at the expense of the white middle class. So much for "..one nation under God indivisable…" it needs to be changed to "Obamas nation under Allah, divided by irresponsible target groups, and no justice for the middle class.."

Posted By Brian, Coralville, IA.: August 17, 2009 10:30 AM

I do not like Beck. I think he is wrong on most current issues.
HOWEVER, racism is a two-way street. Blacks can be just as racist as whites. When's the last time a boycott was started over a black commentator accusing a white person of being racist?
True healing of race relations will not happen in this country until the racism in the African-American community is acknowledged and condemned with the same fervor with which white racism is condemned.

As a White male, I am wondering why so many White people are so angery over President Obama. The man is a hard worker and dedicated to correcting the mistakes of the past President.

Listening to Glen Beck for any type objective opinion is insanity. Just go on youtube to watch his hipocracy. The man is off his rocker just looking for ratings..

This is just another example of Fox News at it's best. When a news company has argued for the right to outright lie to the American public in a court of law, you know that the news network is not worth much as far as a newsworthy source.

http://digg.com/political_opinion/Fox_News_Can_Legally_Lie

If you can watch Fox News, after it argues for that, you're being willingly ignorant.

Posted By Michael in Columbus, OH: August 17, 2009 10:17 AM

What's interesting is that Beck was not HOPING or WISHING for such an attack. He was merely reminding us that we have forgotten what it felt like on September the 12th and in order for us to wake up again from this obama-induced dreamy state, it might take another tragedy.

what's interesting and sad, is that it appears that racism can only be used against white people. If you look into what Obama has said, they can only be labeled as racist.

Curious is anyone saw Janine Garafaolo on MSLSD call Richard Steel someone with "Stockholm syndrome"? Twice on 2 separate occasions. Stockholm syndrome is when a slave, etc looks up to his abductor. Richard Steel is the African American Republican chairman. How many of you saw Keith Olbermann agree with her? Not only when she made that comment but also when she called the hundred's of thousands of people in the tea protests "RACISTS"… Any boycott of Oldermann??? MSLSD? The left are such hypocrites. They're the party of tolerance, UNLESS you disagree. They're the part of dissent & protests UNLESS you disagree. And the most comical part? They dont even see it. Imbeciles. It's no wonder they're whole agenda is falling apart & the President's poll numbers are falling like a lead balloon. Wake me up in 2012 so I dont have to watch as libs ruin the country again with their social redistribution policies; housing, health care, etc. Dopes.

To encourage terrorism in this country goes far beyond "free speech" – it borderlines with the act o terrorism itself. Why are the "patriotic conservatives" not outraged by such un-American rhetoric? How can you say you love this country, but support the terrorist acts that Beck supports?

It's simple, the conservatives are only patriotic when it fits their agenda.

When loudmouths like Rush say that they hope Obama's economic agenda fails, he is hoping that more people lose their jobs and their homes.

He saying loud and clear what we have suspected about conservatives all along: that they do not care about the people of this country.

Anti-Americans, like Beck and Limbaugh, have every right to show us how much they hate this country.

But in a free market, we can also do our patriotic duty to hit those who support this unacceptable behavior in their wallets.

I support all those companies who are telling Beck to STFU. It's the right thing, and the patriotic thing to do.

I can not believe how hateful the fox people and network are. What is wrong with this country when lies and opinions are concerned to be facts? The millionaires are spreading lies because "they" don't need assistence…The people who are going to be hurt the most are getting bad information from talking heads and are going to be the biggest losers in all the lies.

Posted By Jeff O 92024: August 16, 2009 7:10 PM

No one is saying that Glenn Beck doesn't have a right to free speech; they're questioning the content of what he has said. There's nothing "far-left" about objecting to someone who says that it would be a good thing for a terrorist to "detonate a major weapon in the United States". Maybe you can take off your GOP-colored glasses for a moment and take a look at reality. If any liberal said that they wished a terrorist would succeed in an attack on the United States, you'd never hear the end of it from conservatives who are so fond of calling liberals "America haters". Well, call me crazy, but I think someone who roots for terrorists to succeed in a major way (Glenn Beck) is the definition of an America-hater.

So racists wear it on their sleeve? Of course he wouldn't mention race. I don't hear many saying Obama is an idiot. Rather, he's a very competent socialist (as socialists go), with a bone to pick with white people. He's got fairly poor impulse control when presented with uncertain circumstances. When Professor Gates was reported BY HIS NEIGHBOR, he berated Boston Police Sgt Lashley mercilessly instead of cooperating. THIS is what led to the news incident. I venture to say that there never would have been an arrest if Professor Gates had cooperated without verbally assaulting Sgt Lashley. Ever been pulled over by a cop for some trivial reason? Did you get out of your car and start verbally abusing the officer? Of course not. Not unless you want to go to jail. What irony! Talking your way in to jail when an infraction was never committed in the first place. Now, THAT would be acting stupidly. I'm not making excuses for cops. But, they have a hard enough job without EXPECTING them to be perfect in every single action that they take. Therefore, when a cop makes a mistake, cooperate, and there will probably be a fairly ready resolution favorable to all involved. Did Gates do that? Of course not. He instantly went in to entitlement, "Don't you know who I am?", mode. What if the cops release a very convincing criminal (they're out there) after apprehending them, and then it is found later that the criminal perpetrated some heinous act that they wouldn't have been able to if they hadn't been released? Then the cops are excoriated for incompetence. Especially in Massachusetts, where cases like that of Willie Horton (if you don't know what that is, look it up), apparently have the folks preferring to err on the side of safety. That's probably going to mean that once in a while a person who is not a criminal is going to be arrested. The next 1,000 times is happens to a white person, let's see if we get a peep about it from this White House.

quote: 'If you think Obama doesn't exhibit racist tendencies, then explain the reason he stated in a national press conference that the Boston police "acted stupidly"'

the thing that everyone seems to coveniently overlook is that Obama never mentioned race in any capacity during his comments. That many people assumed that he was referencing race reveals a great deal about their own racial prejudice, but says nothing about Obama's position on the matter. Here are the bald facts: the Cambridge police arrested a man in his own home AFTER he had presented ID for no reason other than that he had verbally embarassed them for what he also assumed were racial motivations for their actions. One doesn't need to know any more than that to understand that the police did indeed act outside of their mandate and in so doing created a great deal of public embarassment for themselves. In other words, stupidly. As another example: I think that the poster of the preceding quote is a moron. I mean a real nuckle-dragging simp. But I have no idea what his/her race is,

You're absolutely right, Jason…freedom of speech. That covers not only the right of Glenn Beck to speak like the imbecile he is, but also the right for outraged citizens to write to Fox's advertisers and request a boycott, and for those advertisers to pull their ads from that lame excuse of a 'news network.'

There is a big difference between free speech and advocating violence and hatred. As a national broadcaster, Fox must be responsible AND accountable for it's content. It is sad that a portion of our population are attracted to the Fox agenda, which is neither Christian or patriotic. Indeed, it appeals only to the lowest common denominator.

"This is so funny! When Bush & Rumsfeld and Rice were and all rest was telling all those lis about WMDs in Iraq – then it was the Republicans who called anyone who disagreed unpatriotic. During the Vietnam war anyone who was opposed was unpatriotic and a traitor."

And now it's Pelosi arguing that anyone who disagrees with her is a traitor.

Bottom line is that our society has become intolerant of any differences. It's not a recent thing – it's been growing for at least 25-30 years. In the past, we were able to say "I disagree with you" and leave it at that. Today, it's "you disagree with me, so you're unpatriotic."

We need to go back to understanding that a two party system means that there SHOULD BE differences of opinion. That's exactly what made our country strong. People can disagree with you without being traitors.

The same is true on race issues, labor issues, and all the other issues. A non-white person doesn't get a job – doesn't necessarily mean it's racism. I remember the days when I could have black friends (I'm white) and joke with them about racial issues – and we were (and remain) close friends. Today, I'd have to look over my shoulder for the racial police.

Ultimately, it comes down to the level of narcissism that has developed in our culture. People are convinced that they're the only ones who matter and the world revolves around them.

Time to lighten up and realize that it's a big world with room for differences of opinion.

I am completely astounded every time I accidentally flip through Fox News on the dial. I have not watched even one complete segment that did not have at least one blatant lie or slander in it. I am not sure who the "intelligent" people are who they claim watch their network. It is like watching a class bully be given permission to teach the class with repercussions for what they say, and insults the minds of not just the Americans that it is aimed at, but other citizens of the world who pay attention to what is happening around them. I shed a tear for the future of America if their children are being raised with exposure to this network. Closed minds like their on air personalities and the rants they give have throughout history been responsible for genocide, religious crusades, war, and crippling delays in progress – like the astounding inhumanity that opposed eliminating slavery. The politics of fear, gullibility, and closed-mindedness that this station espouses have somehow gained higher rating than other news networks – scaring the crap out of the rest of the world. Yes, this is exactly the same type of manipulation the Nazi party used. Or are the higher ratings because people who actually check their own facts to see if their commentators are leading them down the right path or not are watching it in droves as if it were a parody or satire channel – or a documentary on what not to do to progress as a nation. I optimistically hope it is the later. I also hope Americans begin to react with outrage at comments like Glen Beck made accusing the President of being racist (having studied all of his speeches for school their is not even the smallest hint he may be so) and see them removed from the airwaves where they have the opportunity to corrupt the gullible. I am paying for my schooling and did the research on his speeches – please tell me why so-called professionals at a news network being PAID to do their jobs could not even bother to do any?

Fox News has the best ratings of all news networks because what their commentators say is closer to the truth than anything on MSNBC, NBC, CBS or CNN. All we have to do is remember the outrageous antics of Dan Rather, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and others in the liberal media tell outright lies to America about George Bush. All of the commentators (Rather, Olbermann and Matthews) knew that what they said as the truth were 100% lies when they made the statements. However, not one of them was fired because of it. Furthermore, the Daily Kos is nothing more than a left-wing piece of garbage and why any advertiser would actually care what they say is a shock to me. I do not condone when commentators make insensative comments about anyone, but I do not belive te Fox News is half as bad as what is said on other networks. Thus, those Americans who ignore Fox News clearly like to live in their fantasy dream world and ignore the truth.

The only thing that Faux News has done since Obama was elected is attempt to foment hatred against him and the democratic administration. They have been like crying spoiled children, stamping their feet in rage with clenched fists that they didn't get what they wanted… which was another republican term to finish what those already in power had started, which is to run this country into a ditch. My god. Look what 8 years of republican rule has wrought for our country? An utterly collapsed economy, a politicized judicial branch, two wars, one of complete choice, the greatest expansion of bureaucracy we have seen through the development of the department of Homeland Security, itself used to silence dissent, and a world that both hates and fears us as they have seen us not only trample our constitution but crap on our values by way of pugnacious arguments that we should torture. And here we have Glenn Beck saying that we are only going to better off if Osama Bin Laden attacks us again? Please. Why don't you raging nutjobs go scream more about supporting the troops and whine about those poor 2000 souls who died "that day"… you people are disgusting. You claim to be so patriotic while you prop up people like this… How could we forget Ann Coultier's foul dribble about how the widows of 911 were "enjoying their husbands' death so much." I am shocked that the republican party can't seem to notice how utterly hypocritical they are, and stand back in utter amazement that they are able to get so many people across this country fall for their BS. Gladly it is not so many that you are winning elections these days! Keep it up. The public needs these faces of the republican party. Who wouldn't prefer Pelosi?

anyone who watches or supports Fox or MSNBC must be retarded. CSPAN & PBS are only options you have. don't boycott the advertisers, boycott the networks and shows which use lies, hate, blind worship

Hey Beck- look up the U.S. Constitution on-line and click on the definition of "Treason"!

It is interesting that most of the companies pulling their ads have huge federal segments in their revenue centers.

Sittinh here typing on my iPhone…. Who give a crap what a commentator says… What about Pelosi and the Obama administration, saying that anyone against his health care bill is a Nazi, racist, and a KKK card carrying member…. Where is the outrage there?????

Glenn Beck is an entertainer. He carefully chooses his words to create this type of hype. O'Reilly, Hannity, Maddow, Olbermann, etc use this as a tool for publicity.

As for Apple, this is business and few do it better. If they buy late night spots and have the ability to move the air time to earlier spots at no cost, why not? Despite what you might think of Fox News shows, they do have more viewers than the other networks. Apple is in the business of selling stuff.

Posted By Scott, Long Island, NY: August 15, 2009 7:14 PM

Those 46,575 etc… are morons. Glen beck is dramatic, but he speaks his mind. It's ridiculous that people would want to try and silence him JUST because they don't agree with him. I think daily kos etc… are harbors for idiocy – but I don't start writing letters to silence them. I let their words/ actions speak for themselves. If you don't like what he says – don't watch him.

Obama and his wife and children are racists. Impeach, then tar and feather him and his ugly family.

have you ever heard of MSNBC and the rest of the mainstream media..Their numbers are down and Microsoft is slowly losing market share to everybody including Google. Why would Apple run adds where the bias would be slanted against them

If I was Apple I would be running those ads on Fox also because that is where the the market share is growing not shrinking. Ever hear of American Idol….

I'm so sick of all the 24 hour news networks that I'm about to just stick with reading the paper.

Posted By Anthony, Arlington VA: August 15, 2009 5:43 PM

Listen…I think our issue is that we have all gotten just a little to smart for our own good! I mean seriously, just looking back on my comments and the comments of others, I have to say I am very impressed about the thought that went into too all of these comments. Honestly though, I can't help to think what a bunch of educated losers we are! I mean really, who really care's about Apple or Fox or Beck and Obama. I can honestly tell you that they don't give a crap about us. They are all living there lives and we are the "intellects" sitting around yapping about how they live it. We are all guilty of trying to be too involved, but when it comes down to it, we never get anything constructive done anyway! I guess it just bothers me when I see people like Dave try to sum up human existance with a short paragraph in a stupid blog. I mean come on Dave, who ever said there were only 2 sides to this story. The way I look at it, there are about 6.5 Million stories to be told. See the problem with what Dave is saying is that he must have lived the same life as my Italian immigrant family members and experienced the hardships, persecutions and hatred that they experienced when they migrated to the United States. You must do a lot of reading Dave! I seriously, how could you possibly know what the all the sides of the Irish, Italians, Germans, Jews, Islamic s, Nigerians, Haitians, Bosnian s, Russians, Australian, Native Americans, Mexicans, Argentinians and the list goes on and on and on! The issue with what Dave said is that he believes there is only Black and White. If it was only Black and White we would have had this thing figured out for quite some time now, and we could stop all this crap and actually go and enjoy our lives, not worrying about hating ourselves because of what your white ancestors did, I mean really…who cares! But hey, I'm just some dumb white blogger, or at least I used to be… Oh and Dave if your worried about the markets crashing you should think about buying Gold, I heard Glenn Beck said it was a good investment. LOL

The 46,575 petitioners, and half the posters here, can't be too bright. I don't even watch Beck, but I can read and COMPREHEND the English language. Review the petition drive's examples. Anyone that isn't a moron can reasonably decipher in the first quote that Beck's point is that too many Americans don't hold the line with pride, and we don't band together until there's a major catastrophe. Then we only do so as long as it's trendy. Has everyone already forgotten 911, and that there's still a massive terrorist nation over there that promises more attacks? Maybe the families of the 46,575 people need to be more directly affected next time, so they won't forget so easily. Haha, look at my comment. Am I suggesting more violence, or for people to wake up and remember history so as to not repeat the mistakes? For the second one, it must be taken in context. I'm sure basically all Americans agree there should be reform, but not nearly as many would agree that the government should be at the head of it. That could lead to terrible mismanagement of monies similar to our military and Social Security fund. Third point: I watched massive amounts of news feeds and other videos during the election. I basically favored Obama, but that waivered as I continued my study. I can recall several comments he made that were quite racist. It would be simple to support Beck's statement here with evidence, so don't get too jumpy with using Beck's statement against him. As for the last statement, the petitioners are just grabbing for anything at this point. Anyone with some depth to their literary experience can recognize the wit and candor in this statement. It parallels the connotations involved with a gentlemen "executing" himself after being exposed for massive wrongdoing. Anyhow, people need to settle down, get educated, and only judge others by their actions with an open mind. Keep it real. Peace.

If you all haven't noticed alot of comentators on Fox News are not only GOP but also independents and democrates. Get real. Glenn Beck is not a Republican nor is O'Reilly…check your facts.

Don't we all want what is best for America? Why are "we" allowing any side dictate what you believe. We as Americans should unite and protect the Constitution as written. We need to protect our GOD GIVEN FREEDOM and do the research ourselves and not let others turn a civil discussion into a battle of sides. Grow up people!

The bias against Apple on CNBC is so thick you can cut it. Watch the station for awhile and see for yourself if you think I'm right. So much for objectivity in economic 'news'. Same villians and culprits of course with Murdock at the top.

Posted By Paul Arnett; Louisville, Ky.: August 15, 2009 3:15 PM

The only way to control a large nation as ours is to confuse the hell out of us. That way we don't actually worry about what the government is doing, because we're too involved with fighting with each other.

Posted By George, Cleveland, Ohio: August 15, 2009 2:47 PM

Here is my question to everyone. While it is true that those comments should not have been made, how come no one is asking why ColorofChange.org didn't also question why Obama made those initial comments and why ColorofChange.org didn't say that Obama's initial comments should have not been made.
As a president he should have said "We don't know all the facts and can't therefore comment on them."
Instead what he did was grow racial anger across the United States.
Lastly as a president he should not call any police department stupid as it can put questions on that police force when they act on events in the future.
Simple thing to do would have been to say "no comment" and you would have never heard about this whole situation.
ColorofChange.org never questioned Obams's remarks. Why ?

Posted By David, Queens, NY: August 15, 2009 2:46 PM

Let's not forget the help the Democrats, Barney Frank and Chris Dowd gave to the market crash, insisting all of those unqualified folks need to get mortgages they would never be able to handle. In the end, this hurt all of us — mostly those that had to leave their homes. Unfortunately, no matter how many hand outs the government gives out, it's never enough.

As for Palin, I can only say it's very amusing how the left gets so worked up over anything she says. If she's as dumb as you say, she must be harmless. Right? Then again, she did just get Obama to drop the worrisome end-of-life conversations. Perhaps it's her effectiveness that concerns you? Rightly so.

@ Laurie, Old Lyme, CT

This is so funny! When Bush & Rumsfeld and Rice were and all rest was telling all those lis about WMDs in Iraq – then it was the Republicans who called anyone who disagreed unpatriotic. During the Vietnam war anyone who was opposed was unpatriotic and a traitor.

The right wing fanatic talkshow hosts are always calling anybody who dares to disagree with them unpatriotic and evil.

Let us remember that the latest act of domestic terrorism was when Jim David Adkisson walked into the TVUUC church and opened fire on the "Liberal" congregation, killing 2 and injuring many more.

It is these right-wing demagogues who are always stirring up hatred – so now you get a taste of your own medicine and all of a sudden you cry FOUL. Well I have news for you – it's been foul for the last 40 years. It's about time you wised up to it!

I am sorry to see these types of organized efforts. If political points of views by all network hosts were to be handled this way, there would be no comerical TV at all; as all of the networks to include CNN,MSNBC,FOX,ABC,NBC, etc., have all expressed views that one side or the other does not like. Let's be real folks… This is not the America we used to know!

Stand up and stop these sort of tactics by both sides. America is about FREEDOM OF POLITICAL SPEECH!

Posted By Barbara Sullivan-Parry, Oyster Bay, NY: August 15, 2009 1:55 PM

Concerning Fox news, I don’t think there is a “news broadcast” that doesn’t TOE the GOP’s version of the truth more than Fox. I’d also like to see what some of these defenders of white liberty and freedom of speech have in their closets – hooded old white sheets?
The fact is America has, and judging from many of these posts, still remains a bigoted, racist country. The official term for this “racial hatred” is called blaming the victim. Do you think Black Americans really wanted to live or grow up in ghettos or barrios; subject to white political and police harassment? The white race has promoted genocide and a false version of Christianity onto the world for the last 500 years.
Unfortunately I’m a member of that race; I just have read both sides of the story. So if any of you bigots who feel that the only “true” Americans look like you, I can only say you’d better break out of your mirrored house.
Regarding Apple, I don’t blame them for what may have been said on Fox, but I’m not going to buy any Apple products for awhile, mostly because I’m going to save my money because of the market crashes – which were brought about by GOP economic mismanagement from 2000 – 2008!
Gotown maybe you should LEAVE town.

"I am appalled by the constant shortcomings of the press."

Me too..

That Palin got away with talking about "real america" and "real americans", as both a wife of a secessionist, treasonous idiot and a vocal supporter of other secessionist, treasonous idiots, and have the press give her a free pass, was shameful and sad.

The fact that there are idiots that parrot her words and want her to lead our nation is just pathetic. More so that the press is too chicken s*** to call them on it. She falls to pieces when going toe to toe with Katie Couric and Letterman, but the radical right wants us to believe she's competent to go toe to toe with Kim Jong-il and Akadidn'twin? Jesus… And again, the press is too chicken s*** to call the ignorant nuts on this insanity/stupidity..

It's the end of the world as we know it. And feel fine… No .. I'm buying more ammo… and waiting for a competent 3rd party … then I'll feel fine.

Glen Beck is the hypocrit… Back in January 2008 he had surgery and spoke out about his horrible experiences with his HMO and medical insurance. Before he was on FOX he spoke out for weeks about healthcare reform… NOW, because Obama wants healthcare reform… The system is apparently perfectly fine as is…

Anyone that takes Glen Beck seriously is a fool… I believe Glen Beck is a fairly intelligent person… He's just playing everyone that watches him for fools. Glen Beck doesn't believe 99% of the things he preaches… He's a decent actor laughing all the way to the bank. He makes more money than Obama playing into the fear of a black man as President….

Sore losers each and every one of you…

Racism is alive and well in the US and it is comming from the militant blacks. I have never seen so much hatred against majority white persons as I have this year. It is ugly and Obam is perpetuating the nastiness. He speaks up for the militants. Anyone that dare question him is called racist
and some other unqualified label. He has not proven his birth place and those that ask are labeled and targeted. This needs to stop. He is the cause of our problem, the sooner he is out of office the better off we as a Nation will be.

Its ok to call George Bush a "racist" ie: Kanye West "George Bush hates black people…" but when Beck does it, it becomes a national saga! I guess this is what happens when everyone is out of work! They sit around all day figuring out ways to destroy wealth by boycotting ad spots! "Rent-seeking" has never been so alive in this country!

Posted By Mike New Haven, CT: August 15, 2009 12:26 PM

I did not read one word of "hate" from the quotes you chose…The Fox News commentator's perspectives "that you quoted" comes from their observations from Obama's own history with marxist "friends" and groups. These people are fighting anti-American, anti-life, anti-democratic-republic policies and rhetoric, and actions from the president and the extreme left.

Hail the hypocrisy!

How could House Speaker Nancy Pelosi call protestors at Town Hall meetings “un-American?”

How dare she!

And how could the press not deride her for such blatant hypocrisy?

How dare it!

I am appalled by the constant shortcomings of the press.

During the Bush administration, when protestors were saying and doing whatever against the President, Pelosi said dissent was good, as American as apple pie. Obviously, Speaker Pelosi is aptly named Speaker, as she is more than able to speak from both sides of her mouth.

However, this isn’t the type of speaker we need. Her insults only increase the tension and unrest in our country. The more honest Americans are insulted and denigrated, the harder they will fight.

Thank goodness for the likes of Glen Beck and others who aren't afraid to speak up against these hypocrites!

Why do you think Fox kills the other stations in the news ratings? They're the ONLY ones who aren't afraid to speak out. Long live FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
