Linux, Linux, Linux... when will the Linux nerds learn that Joe America is not going to try to tame that OS? Give me a break. If people find Vista too hard, how do you think they find Linux? No, Linux is never going to replace OSes like OS X and Windoze. Sorry, it's not going to happen.

Apple is taking over the universe and the release of Windows 7 is just going to further that trend. People are sick and tired of using a platform that fights them every step of the way. My business just migrated to Mac and my employees are ecstatic. I've never seen then happier, it's like Christmas around here. The only thing Microsoft can hope to do is release a product that is more like OS X, and we all know they can't do that, so more and more will turn to Mac as we did, and be more the happier for it.

Why not release this as a fixed version of vista? it's going to be hard to purchase this version after similar promises were made when vista was released. This is just a better vista after all. It will do 2 things. It will restore confidence in Microsoft, and promote sales of Vista for the multitudes that still run xp.

By offering this product after my inverstment of 350 dollars for a product as poor as Vista, it speaks poorly for the chiefs that run the company since bill left. If they do not make this backwards available to current vista users, then I support Apple and its efforts to promote their position all the more.

Can you post a link on HP or Dell sites where I can buy a laptop (not netbook) with *nix OS or laptop without an OS?

And why I should pay even "so cheap" price for something that I am not going to use? I don't think you would either. BTW, windows lic on laptop is not "so cheap". I believe XP is ~$70 and "great" vista os is ~$100.

PC manufactures like Dell & HP should give consumers a real choice, and stop selling Laptops and PCs preloaded with MS os, and stop collecting $$ for Microsoft.

HP, Dell and other do give you the choice of buying hardware with a *nix operating system, but the OEM of the Windows OS is so cheap, many *non leet* will gladly pay the price... and thus it sells

Why use crappy OS and pay top $$ or good OS on top $$ hardware (like OS X on Macs) when one can use best OS for $0 on commodity hardware.

Linux is the way to go...
