While on some level, the earnings call shed no new data, this is one of those cases where no news is actually GREAT news, something that I blogged about in:

ANALYSIS - Apple Quarterly Earnings Call: When No News is GREAT News

Check it out if interested.

Wow! Just wow! First, Turley Muller and Deagol (of AFB) nailed it in terms of EPS, while Andy Zaky and Gene Munster panicked for no reason (so the "grunts" from these former bulls were just that).

Mac sales were down, as feared; iPhones did better than consensus, as expected (RIMM success in smartphones was your preview). I think the biggest story, however, is the number of iPods sold. If I understand correctly, nobody predicted 11M. And of course, we know that iPod Touch is the most popular iPod, with a pretty margin too. Combine it with iPhone sales, and you see why the app store is exploding.

PED - I know some readers don't like the analyst-blogger "smackdowns", but if you could create a table, that would be an interesting read, especially given some role-reversals (e.g., Gene Munster's EPS prediction was surprisingly low).

Thanks. This live blog was more detailed than the WSJ live blog, with fewer snarky comments.

And sorry to be a nit-picky editor, but I think you meant "principal" rather than "principle" in answer to the cash question?

ex ped: Thanks for the catch. Will fix.

Regarding the new headquarters. A while back Apple bought some land in Cupertino and are building a new corporate campus. I believe they intend to consolidate all of their Cupertino-area activities in this new facility. Right now they're scattered among several leased buildings in the area.

Does anyone know why when I attempt to listen to the call, the Quicktime window appears with the correct title and time for the conference call, the dialog at the bottom says connecting... and then Disconnected. Why can't I listen?!
