Dullards all over (mostly short sellers or paid by short sellers or just myopic PeeCee users) have been predicting the demise of the iPod for a year or two now.

Some people never learn. Apple has replaced the iPod with the iPod touch, a combination iPod and best of class mobile internet device. Nothing (except iPhone) even comes close.

I am seeing my own anecdotal evidence–many people are getting these, some who never had an iPod, some who are hard core PC users, etc…

Can you share we us the source of the 3.5M number. I have never seen Apple break out the touches separate from total ipod sales

Best thing Apple has released other than the MacBook Pro series of laptops. I saw 4 of them opened up on christmas by family members. GPS System on it would be nice (Hint to Apple Developers). Apple user for 17 years now.

I have a hard time believing this that "exploding" is not partly due to the FIX apple sent out to correct the touch's lack of ability to connect to certain routers. When they released the firmware update, sometime in November I believe, that fixed the issue of connecting to the internet via the device for a good number of users. Still, however, many have issues connecting to GMail.

Ted, I think you hit the nail on the head. I am one of those who bought an iPod touch because I didn't need anything more than my basic cell phone. No that I'm at the end of my Verizon contract, I'll reconsider but I'd really like to see a non-exclusive carrier policy so we don't have to pay so much for a data plan.
