I like the Macbook. It's small, light, affordable and all I need. I use one for my audio business. The new model with its 256mb VRAM is a killer machine, if it had Firewire. Hopefully Apple will put FW back in future Macbook models. Until then, I won't buy an Apple laptop.

(regarding new MacBooks) No Firewire = No Sale.

$1300 for a notebook with only 2 USB ports!! I used to be a staunch defender of the Mac, but there is no defending this.

For those of you who are criticizing my previous post - I have worked in both machining and manufacturing. Trust me, if any plant I worked at had to recycle 90% of our raw material, the plant would have been completely redesigned.

I am not saying aluminum is bad. I like aluminum. I like recycling. I dislike the concept of buying material and then selling 90% of that raw material back for pennies on the dollar after running my high-end machining equipment on it for hours.

And, Bob Shettel, as for auto, motorcycle, and aircraft manufacturers, I assure you that they do not send 90% of the metal they buy back to the forge!

Jay,

Not sure if you noticed but they did basically say that the new notebooks will be landfill-friendly; which is by FAR more environmentally friendly than any other notebook out there.

Quote from Article:

Jobs says Apple is just as proud of the things they left out of these products – specifically, toxic chemicals. They’re Arsenic free, BFR free, Mercury free, PVC free, highly recyclable, and it has 37-percent smaller packaging.

Jay from Houston.. CNC milling of delicate, precise parts along with the attendant recycling already IS the most environmentally friendly way to produce what you're after. If you castigate Apple for this, be aware that you're castigating every auto, motorcycle, and aircraft manufacturer for the same thing..

Apple should have priced the $1299 laptop at $999, and the entry-level one at $699.

If they had done that, I woulda bought the new model RIGHT NOW. But since they didn't, I'll have to think about it a little more.
