Apple to unveil new laptops Tuesday

It's official: Apple (AAPL) plans to unveil new laptops next week.
Just after 9 a.m. PT today, I got the customary e-mail from the folks in Cupertino, inviting me to a 10 a.m. Tuesday gathering at the Town Hall on Apple's campus. We all know what to expect: updates to the Mac maker's most important line of computers, its laptops. The event will take on added significance for two reasons. One, the new products represent Apple's best chance to offer a product so compelling that consumers will buy despite tough economic times. Two, the event comes just days before Apple announces fourth quarter earnings on October 21.

It is so obvious isnt it? The new laptop will be a large version of the iTouch. All touch screen/no physical keyboard. Full application support. USB if you just have to have the physical keyboard and mouse. For a couple of extra bucks you will get the Phone.
Game changer! The must have 'Next big thing'.
Get this straight, Mac's are PC's. They have the same Intel processors, mainstream hard drives, RAM, and video cards as their Wintel brethren.
MAC OS X performance is certainly not significant enough to make up for 5 years of processing gains. In my experience, it isn't really any faster at all.
Dollar for dollar, I'd put a similarly priced PC against a Mac any day, and I have used both extensively.

I could go on for hours about how you get ripped off when you buy a mac. Or i could tear you mac users to shredds about how PC users have state of the art hardware and mac users have to wait a whole year just to get a new machine. I could also get into the fact that mac users dont have a clue as to how to use a computer.

I could also bash microsoft to but their would be no point in that as atleast with Windows you have a choice!!! OR you can use a Redhat or Suse, Gentoo, or build your own linux distro.
like learning to ride a bike or drive a car, or walk you have to learn how to use a computer!!!!

Can the technology freaks out there use a word other than noob? It's very pretentious and immature. This mine is bigger than yours attitude is so preschool. Anyways, maybe Mac cannot measure up to your supercomputer, but how much did you pay for the parts? How much work did you put in to get it up and running? There are other uses for your computer other than the CPU intensive tasks you guys are running. Most users do not need and cannot afford all that power. I work in IT for the school system. I'll tell you right now these PC parts SUCK. They blow hardcore, and Mac isn't much better, but to defend PC as if their so great… I just repeat my original point. For what most people need to do on a computer(and not get bombarded with viruses because there are a million security holes) is not what the more advanced users are always complaining about. Thats why Mac gains market share. Also, this guy is talking pretty colors on a Mac? Aren't there a million lightup, multicolor fruity looking cases for PCs? Ive seen many techies with these embarrasing covers. Why don't you just admit that you learned Windows, and are too lazy to deal with another OS?
Factory PC's do suck compared to Factory Mac's. Factory Pc's are so loaded down with solicitation software that it tanks the numbers(performance). Then Microsoft does something idiotic and releases vista (a OS that requires a gig of memory to run, when the Pc's out at the time and the target upgrade audience had computers that only had a gig of mem. This caused the sluggishness and errors). Macs come virtually free of solicit software so they do run faster out of the box and since that stuff is so hard to junk off a PC, unless you really know computers it keeps it slow. That's how Matt is right, as for maddawg. No bull, if you build your own PC of course it's gonna run faster, that's a no brainer! Also dude quit using noob, try thesaurus.com or something to expand you knowledge. You seemed smart untill half your sentences had noob in it. Unless you had a bet with someone about how many time you could squeeze that into a blog post. if so I hope you won.

4th quarter dummy! Earnings are reported in fiscal year format and they run from October to October.

to prove it, i challenge any of you mac noobs to benchmark your system and compare it to numbers i get out of mine.
(of course, i build my own with only the top technology available…and guess what…none of it comes from apple…gee, i wonder why they can't compete with the top technologies?)

4th Quarter – Apple has used fiscal year September end for years – maybe since before the Macintosh. That way their 4th Qtr ends with Back-to-school sales (traditionally big for them) and their 1st Qtr records holiday sales (even better now that they are huge in consumer electronics like ipods and iphones).
You’re all a bad word that they will not let me post! If any of you knew anything about technology, you would know that Apple computers are above & beyond any PC on the market & not just because I am an Apple user, but take a look at one, use one and maybe you will come out of you blogging world and realize what misinformed people you really are! A Mac you bought 5 years ago is still faster and better then any PC on the market right now… what’s up with that? & Mac’s are priced high because of the way they perform and the advanced technology. PC’s are junk and you are all misinformed blogers who have no idea what you are talking about, but find the need to tell us all your brainless, uneducated opinions and as far as the person who is freaked out over the economy… get yourself together! The world is not going to end and we will pull through this just as we always do. Apple's market share will only increase and regardless of tough times, iconic products such as Apple's are less immune to recessions. Apple's cult following will purchase even in tough economies.
Is this the best timing with all the turmoil? I think they should wait (for a year at least)…

It will be after the market closes if that's what you mean.
One quick review of the comments in this thread has just reminded me why no intelligent person with a busy schedule in 2008 should spend time reading article comments. I mean, really, when you can't figure out 4th quarter means fiscal year 4th quarter and you call people a noob, what level of smart can be populating this comment thread? What is the point of this thing?
