Dude,

Two words - Jonathan Ive

(well those are two names ...)

In terms of innovation, handling of distortion fields, politely diverting subjects while infusing passion for products, hands down Jonathan Ive.

No one can replace Steve Jobs, but to make sure that no "upper management, stiff collar, Ex hardware engineering/marketing/business development types" get into the business of innovation is crucial for Apple. Mr. Jobs is none of these. HE is simply: intense, a visionary, hires the right people to do exemplary work, and BELIEVES in the innovation and creativity of the company.

Also what's up with the whole 'Brit bashing thing'?

I used to hire computer engineers at Plessey/Dilog and check backgrounds of Senior Management before I typed their offer letters.

My recommendation is to hire a female -even a family member - in the Human Resources department.

"It was there that he came up with the idea of marrying a Napster-like music store with a hard drive-based MP3 player."

Napster wasn't a store at that time, it was a (already shutdown) file sharing service. So I doubt he came up with the idea to make a Napster-like store.

I vote for Sina Tamaddon, though we don't know where he was born, raised and schooled, we he looks a lot like Cosmo (Ben Kingsley), the black hat hacker from the movie Sneakers. Since I want Apple to build a decrypting device like the one in that movie, i really wish for him to be the successor. Martin Bishop (robert redford) won't be happy, but you know, life's unfair. :-)

Forstall is the logical pick. He has the history, he has the charisma to take up the reality-distortion field, and he clearly has the energy to push the iPhone software out and keep it going. Fadell is smart, but there's a sort of edge to him that I don't think would play well to the public or the market in the long run. But, as others have said, heres hoping Steve hangs in for many years after his clearly challenging cancer surgery.

Very good article and a first to let us Appleofiles know who is who at AAPL. Who is the passionate leader within who shares some vision of what the future should hold, who knows what we want better than we do? Who is part evangelist, part visionary, part manager, part driver that can keep the momentum going??

As a large stock holder my worry is not Apple, rather it is the ignorant and overly emotional stockholders and institutional brokers who drive the stock up and down a few percent on perceived situations and innuendo. Our Jobs get sick, we all get sick and look like hell, but he does and bang, 15 pts down in a week. Nuts.

Where is the 2008 Guy Kawasaki??

Great article...timely and well done...the positive way you portrayed all of the management team and put to rest the idea that finding a successor to lead would be a daunting assignment...it also showed that a number of individuals share in Apple's success especially the iPod which was shopped and picked up by Apple...this should earn you a little respite from all those who hammer you constantly on your articles...lol
